Denia Park, City of Denton

TNP receives an Honor Award from the City of Denton for providing outstanding leadership and service to Parks & Recreation projects and to neighborhood residents.   Our design team had the privilege of working on Denia Park, one of the City’s oldest regional parks.  The park had existing amenities including: a recreation/community center, a four-plex, basketball courts, multipurpose courts, picnic and barbeque facilities, a playground, a native plant display garden, parking, and a soccer field. A looping trail was one lacking amenity that would not only link the existing amenities, but provide yet another active and leisure recreational benefit to the residents of Denton and patrons of Denia Park.

TNP hosted three public meetings to receive input from the neighborhood in order to provide a responsive trail design for the residents, while satisfying the City’s vision outlined in their Parks Master Plan. Our team worked diligently to mediate resident concerns, address City staff requirements, negotiate topographic relief for ADA compliance, preserve existing native trees, and link all existing park amenities along the proposed loop trail.  The neighborhood has now taken an active role in future enhancements, neighborhood volunteer projects, existing park tree preservation, maintenance, and long-range use of Denia Park.
